Of late, there have been a lot of changes in the release dates of Tamil films, leading to a chaotic atmosphere where the release of films gets postponed, or hits the screens in a rush without a proper announcement in advance. This has led to smaller films losing out on their box office collection, because they have to fight for screens with big-budget films. To resolve this confusion, the Tamil Film Producers’ Council is currently requesting producers of upcoming films to register the prospective release date of their films.
Talking about this move, producer SR Prabhu, who is the treasurer of the council, says, “We have initiated talks, asking them to register the release date of their films in advance. This will help everyone because once we come to know the release date of the big-budget films, the other films can plan their release accordingly. Nowadays, since movie-watching has become a costly affair, people have become very choosy on what films they want to watch in the theatre. If the release schedule is planned and big-budget films are released at right intervals, all the producers will benefit from it. Bollywood has been doing it for some time and we can also make it possible here.”
